FINEVIEW, NY – On Saturday, August 11, the Friends of the Nature Center will host Clarkson Associate Professor, Martin Heintzelman as part of their monthly seminar series. Professor Heintzelman’s seminar will be the fourth in a six-part series of discussions provided by Clarkson faculty or affiliates. The seminar starts at 6:00 pm with time before and after for snacks and refreshments.
The August seminar will focus on ecosystem services, which are services provided to society by healthy functional ecosystems. This talk will broadly sketch the ecosystem services provided by 1000 Islands ecosystems, survey the methods available to value these services, and provide some relevant examples from the academic literature in these areas.
“This seminar series is a great opportunity for our community to learn about some of the research that is being conducted at Clarkson, particularly research that impacts River residents”, said Stefanie Kring, Friends of the Nature Center Board Member and Clarkson Assistant Professor. “The Friends of the Nature Center are extremely appreciative of these speakers offering their time and knowledge to our community”, said Kring.
Two seminars remain in this series. On September 8, Dr. Michael Twiss from Clarkson will present “Connecting Waters and Lives: Social and Ecological Importance of Large Rivers”. Dr. Susan Powers of Clarkson will conclude the series with her discussion “Climate Changes in New York State”.
