October 3, 2018 – Test of Nationwide Emergency Alert System

We have been advised that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and the Wireless Emergency Alert System (WEA). These tests will begin at 2:18pm EDT on Wednesday, October 3, 2018.

If you have a cell-phone you should expect to receive a push message that looks similar to the attached image and reads:

“THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.”

Upon receipt of the test message, your phone will emit a special tone and vibration (similar to AMBER Alerts & other severe weather warnings). This will be the first nationwide Presidential-level WEA test and cannot be opted out.

Please be aware that this test is not connected with Clarkson’s RaveAlert system. For more information about this nationwide test, please visit: https://www.fema.gov/emergency-alert-test
