Fringe Benefit Rate

Each year, Clarkson University negotiates a fringe benefit rate with its federal oversight agency, the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).  This rate is applicable to grants, contracts and other agreements with the Federal Government and allows Clarkson to be reimbursed for a portion of fringe benefit costs, expressed as a percentage of salaries.  These costs include medical insurance expense, pension plan expense, and worker’s compensation expense, among others.

Clarkson University has accepted a new proposed fringe benefit rate of 34.60%, effective immediately.   This replaces the previously negotiated fringe benefit rate of 36.30%, and it will remain in effect through June 30, 2019. Please note that this lower rate will now be applied to Federal grants and contracts throughout the remainder of Fiscal Year 2019 and will also be used in current and future proposals.
