Clarkson Ducted Wind Turbine Installation Celebration

Earth Day will be a big day for Associate Professor of Mechanical & Aeronautical Engineering Ken Visser and his team as Clarkson University will celebrate the installation of Visser’s Ducted Wind Turbine, the 2018 project of the Clarkson Institute for a Sustainable Environment’s Sustainability Fund.

An early trial of the ducted wind turbine, it will be raised for the event

The concept for the turbine came out of Visser’s research and lead to the incorporation of a company (Ducted Turbines International) through the Shipley Center. Faculty, staff members, alumni, and many students have been involved in the work on the project to get to this point. Operation of the wind turbine will provide on-going opportunities for student research and design projects and will be a showcase for DTI.

Ducted Turbines International (DTI) is a wind turbine company that focuses on providing the lowest cost per kilowatt hour in the small turbine market. DTI’s design produces more than two times the energy of a conventional open bladed wind turbine of the same rotor diameter.

On Earth Day, April 22, Clarkson will hold a ribbon cutting and celebrate for the turbine. The event will be held in the TAC (Technology Advancement Center) atrium from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The community is invited to attend to learn more about small wind and the Clarkson Ducted Wind Turbine.
