Clarkson Professor Honored with A.F. Davis Silver Medal Award


Professor Daryush Aidun

Daryush Aidun, Professor of Metallurgy, has been awarded the A.F. Davis Silver Medal Award by the American Welding Society for his work on a paper entitled “Exploring the Cooling Process for Residual Stress Reduction in Dissimilar Welds.” The award is given to the author or authors of papers published in the Research Supplement of the Welding Journal during the previous calendar year that represents the best contributions to the progress of welding in the categories of Machine Design, Maintenance and Surfacing, and Structure Design.  Aidun, along with other authors, is receiving the award in the Structure Design category.

The paper, which is about trying to develop process parameters/procedures to minimize tensile residual strains/stresses in welds, especially dissimilar metal welds, was done with the help of Aidun’s former PhD Student, Dr. Hamid Eisazadeh.
