Strategic Planning Update

All,

Below is a recap of the last couple of weeks of progress and a look ahead of what is coming:

We have had multiple inputs of information and feedback since May 2019, the beginning of the strategic planning process:

  • The information that came out of the request for initial input on Clarkson’s current context and possibilities is provided here.
  • The attendees at the June 14th initial strategic planning kickoff meeting (members of the Board, the Strategic Planning Core Committee, and Task Force Team Chairs) held in Albany, were also asked to answer a set of questions to help set the stage and ‘strategic mindset’ for this initial workshop; a summary of the responses can be found here.
  • The workshop discussions incorporated the campus input and responses from above and resulted in an initial list of strategic possibilities – headlines of ideas – headlines like “Advancing Research & Scholarship”, which the campus was then asked to provide feedback and comments on; a summary of the campus feedback can be found here.
  • After reviewing the campus feedback and finding overlap between the initial possibilities, the consultant recommended the strategic possibilities list could be reduced as we enter into the next session of drafting the strategy cascades.  The reduced list can be found here.

Looking ahead:

  • The Task Force Teams will begin completing the draft Strategy Cascades template that contains the strategic possibilities by October 4, 2019.
  • The Task Force Team will then have an opportunity to present their drafts to the other teams.
  • Following the presentations, the Core Team review the drafts and comments from the teams and work with the consultant to merge them into one cohesive document. At that time, we will again be seeking input from the campus community and the Board members and look for feedback to help round out the compelling narratives for each strategic possibility in preparation for our next steps in the Playing to Win framework.
  • A communications plan will be developed over the next week or so and will be communicated to the campus as soon as a draft is available to provide a roadmap for strategic planning communications across the Clarkson community.
