Pedro L. Fernández-Cabán has been appointed assistant professor of civil & environmental engineering at Clarkson University.
He received his Ph.D. in civil engineering and master of engineering in civil engineering from the University of Florida, and his bachelor of science in civil engineering from University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez.
Fernández-Cabán’s research interests are in cyber-physical modeling of civil infrastructure performance under wind and other natural hazards; stochastic structural optimization of civil infrastructure; characterization of wind-induced loads on building structures through boundary layer wind tunnel modeling; and behavior of extreme near-surface winds in the tropical cyclone atmospheric boundary layer.
He has delivered invited talks and published in Frontiers in Built Environment, Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics, Computers & Structures, Engineering Structures, and Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society, as well as in conference and workshop proceedings and presentations.
Fernández-Cabán is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Association for Wind Engineering, and Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers.
He previously served as a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Maryland, College Park.
