Coronavirus Update From President Collins – For Faculty & Staff

This has been a challenging week with ever-changing circumstances. My deep appreciation to each and every member of the Clarkson Community for their understanding and help in moving the institution forward in a reasonably calm and rational way to deal with what is now a global pandemic. The following thoughts represent a high-level summary of our current directions:

  • The majority of our undergraduates are proceeding to Spring Break and will remain off-campus following Spring Break and will receive their education on-line while we wait for further directives from New York State. A number of undergraduates, for extenuating circumstances, will remain on campus and will continue their instruction on-line. No final decision has been made regarding undergraduates returning to campus and resuming normal instruction.

  • All varsity athletic contests have been cancelled for the remainder of the semester.

  • In general, our Potsdam research graduate population is pursuing business as usual as are Potsdam professional degree students. Health Sciences and CRC graduate students have particular challenges that are being worked through their academic administrators, and the students continue to progress forward.

  • Potsdam faculty and staff will report to work as normal. We will continue to pay particular attention to employee needs for accommodation, especially for faculty and staff (and students) who have underlying health issues as this pandemic evolves.  Each request is resolved on a case-by-case basis.

There are many other matters and issues of concern that our Emergency Response Team is dealing with, but I want to assure everyone that, fundamentally, the University is moving forward, our finances are stable and the teamwork to continue Clarkson’s progress is exceptional.

Thank you and you can expect continued updates as we progress.  If you have any questions, please submit them to https://www.clarkson.edu/form/covid-19-questions.
