Clarkson University, SLC Chamber of Commerce and ANCA Partner with the Center for Businesses in Transition to Create E-Commerce Development Support for North Country Small Businesses

Small businesses across the North Country are in dire need of help to expand their e-commerce capabilities so they can remain open amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Now they can get the help they need, thanks to Clarkson University, ANCA, SLC Chamber of Commerce and the Center for Businesses in Transition.

Students in Clarkson’s Department of Communication, Media, and Design will be working with local agencies, led by Breaking Even Communications, to build websites and find e-commerce solutions for North Country businesses affected by the crisis. Professor Eric York, who teaches web development courses for the University, is proud of how quickly his students stepped up to help. “The response was heartwarming,” York said. “Students in my courses are excited to be able to lend their time and skills to help small businesses in need.”

Businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic with an immediate need for web development support can get a consultation and limited web development services for free or at a reduced cost. There are free webinars that business owners can stream online, and they can apply for additional support whether their business needs a full website or some other kind of support.

These one-hour free webinars presented by Breaking Even Communications will help owners navigate Point of Sale (POS) systems, online-only processors, money transfer apps, digital wallets, subscription services, and more. Another webinar gives owners an intro into e-commerce by diving into the difference between carts and payment forms, and how to know if a third party system such as Ebay or Etsy versus having something on their own website is the right choice. Together, Clarkson, ANCA, the St. Lawrence Chamber of Commerce and the Center for Transitioning businesses hope to ease some of the burdens on these small businesses that have been caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
