Clarkson University Healthcare MBA Earns Re-Accreditation

The Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) has announced that it renewed the accreditation of Clarkson University’s MBA in Healthcare Management for seven years — the commission’s highest accreditation level.

Clarkson’s David D. Reh School of Business also holds business accreditation from AACSB International — the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business — making Clarkson’s Healthcare Management MBA one of only 28 programs in the United States to be accredited by the two business management accrediting organizations.

“We are very pleased that the CAHME board has again recognized the quality of our Healthcare MBA program,” said Associate Professor and Program Director Dr. John Huppertz. “We are even more proud of the students and faculty who make it what it is today — a leading healthcare management education program that provides students with the skills they need to meet the challenges of today’s healthcare industry.”

After reviewing a year-long self-study prepared by the program, a site visit team from CAHME spent three days on campus analyzing and verifying information about the program, including interviews with the program’s faculty, students, graduates, administrators, and leaders of healthcare organizations in the community.

“CAHME is well-known for having a rigorous competency-based accreditation, and the review of Clarkson’s Healthcare MBA program followed a thorough report by the program faculty and administrators,” said Huppertz. “The accreditors came away impressed with the program’s quality of teaching, commitment of students and faculty, and support from alums and healthcare leaders.”

CAHME accreditation is the benchmark for students and employers to ensure integrity of graduate healthcare management education and it provides access for students to prestigious postgraduate administrative fellowships in some of the nation’s top healthcare systems. The thoroughness of the accreditation review process is designed to ensure the program maintains high quality and that graduates are well prepared to serve in a demanding, changing, and critical industry.

“Accreditation by CAHME is an outstanding achievement,” said Reh School Dean Dr. Augustine Lado. “Our experienced faculty and a rigorous, topical curriculum have enabled us to maintain this distinction and to provide high quality in every aspect of the program.”

The Clarkson Healthcare Management MBA is designed to help students understand the complexities of the healthcare system and to manage health and health-related facilities more effectively. Graduates establish highly visible and successful careers in organizations such as hospitals, health systems, health insurance companies, medical practices, technology and consulting firms, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, and healthcare policy development institutions.

Students can complete the Healthcare Management MBA on a part-time or full-time schedule, and either online or in a more traditional classroom setting. The evening on-site classes are conducted on Clarkson’s Capital Region Campus in Schenectady.

Due to the pandemic, the Reh School of Business is temporarily waiving its requirement for standardized test scores for all applicants seeking to start the Healthcare Management MBA in the summer 2020, fall 2020, winter 2021 or spring 2021 quarter. Merit-based scholarships are still available and awards will be based on students’ academic achievements.
