Graduate Arrival Testing – Non-Residential
All students will be required to follow Clarkson testing protocols prior to being approved to be on-campus. Students must submit a negative test from a test specimen taken within 7-days prior to their first day of returning in person on campus. Students who are required to quarantine according to the NYS Travel Advisory may be required to have additional testing to comply with both NYS and Clarkson guidelines. All requirements and information are based on New York State directives in place as of December 7, 2020. We will notify the campus if the State or federal government makes further updates or changes to guidance.
When to take my first test:
Students coming from contiguous states and from within NY will follow the chart indicated below. Please review the arrival testing information listed below. Students needing to quarantine upon arrival to NYS may or may not need to obtain an additional test prior to being approved to be on-campus. Follow the quarantine information listed below.
- Graduate students who need access to labs or to conduct research on campus throughout break must test during the first week of January to continue accessing campus. Upload your test results following the instructions below.
- If you have a program start date that is not listed above or feel that your need to access campus is not reflected in the chart below, please contact studentaffairs@clarkson.edu to discuss your specific situation / requirements.
Note – you will need to follow Clarkson guidelines to be approved to be on campus by submitting a negative test as indicated below. This may mean you will have multiple tests prior to your approval to be on-campus for the spring term.

How to upload your test:
- Register in your county / testing center patient portal. This will allow you to view and capture your test results to upload in myCU.
- Sign into myCU and navigate to Tasks and Holds.
- Upload your test results (scanned copy or picture).
- Your results must include student name, test type (must be PCR), date administered, test facility location, and test result.
- Faxed test results will not be accepted and/or reviewed by the Student Health Center.
Contiguous States to NY: MA – NJ – CT – PA – VT
Travelers from Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Vermont are exempt from the current travel advisory but must still complete the NYS Traveler Health Form. Students will be required to submit a negative test result from a specimen taken within 7-days from their first scheduled date on campus by uploading the result in myCU under Tasks & Holds. Refer to the Arrival testing chart for more information. Please keep in mind that NYS quarantine regulations are fluid and may change between now and your arrival for the Spring 2021 semester.
NYS Quarantine Mandate: International and Noncontiguous States
Noncontiguous states, US territories, or CDC level 2 or level 3 country
Travelers from a noncontiguous state, US territories or CDC level 2 / 3 country must quarantine for 14-days. Students will be required to submit a negative test result from a specimen taken within 7-days from their first scheduled date on campus by uploading the result in myCU under Tasks & Holds. Please note that students are allowed to leave quarantine for health purposes. Refer to the Quarantine Testing Chart for additional guidance on NYS arrival & quarantine testing dates.
Test Out Guidelines:
To test out of the mandatory 14-day quarantine, the traveler must:
- Obtain a test within 3-days of departure, prior to arrival in New York
- Upon arrival to NY, quarantine for 3-days
- On day 4 of their quarantine, obtain another COVID test
If both tests come back negative the traveler may exit quarantine upon receipt of the second negative diagnostic test.
