Two Updates for College Student Vaccination

In this communication:

  • How to sign up now for a vaccination appointment at SUNY Potsdam for April 6 or later
  • Survey on Interest in Vaccination – Potential to host a pod here
  • Vaccine Benefits

In New York State, ages 16+ will be eligible for vaccination effective April 6. Current eligibility is for persons ages 30+ as well as a number of other categories.

  • Vaccination at SUNY Potsdam Field House: If you are currently under 30, our St. Lawrence Public Health Team indicates that if you sign up for an appointment on the Am-I-Eligible Web site and use any of the eligibility criteria such as a comorbidity and then go to the SUNY Potsdam Mass Vaccination site for an appointment that is on April 6 and later, that they will be taking just proof of age from that date forward and you will not be turned away.  If you try to go before April 6 and are under 30, you may be turned away.
    • If you get a Pfzier vaccine at this site, you will be required to get a second dose at the same location three weeks later so please plan accordingly.
    • Pfizer is the only vaccine currently authorized for persons age 16+ — for all others you must be 18 and older.
  • Possible Vaccination Site on Campus:  We are also working with St. Lawrence County Public Health on hosting a vaccination pod on campus in mid-to-late April and are trying to secure the Johnson & Johnson (J&J), single dose for this purpose.  You must be 18 and over to get the J&J vaccine.  This is NOT final and will be dependent upon the supply of vaccines that comes into the County.  To express interest in getting an appointment if this is finalized, please go to: https://forms.gle/7pT9v32oHaEFAjNt8
  • Vaccine Benefits & Eligibility:
    • Highly effective in preventing SARS-CoV-2
    •  Even if you have tested positive previously, you are eligible and encouraged to get the vaccine
    • After successful completion of COVID vaccine, you may be exempt from quarantine
