Chief Inclusion Office Message: Guilty Verdict in the Derek Chauvin Trial

Black Lives Matter. You matter. The anguish of the last year can not be overstated.

Through exhaustion and anticipation we’ve received the guilty verdicts in the Derek Chauvin trial for the murder of George Floyd.  While the verdicts are a step towards overall accountability, we know this trial brought many emotions to the surface. The stress and strain of the last year has been elevated.

It is okay to not be okay. It is okay to need to rest. It is okay to be angry because the verdict does not bring back George Floyd’s life, and one guilty verdict does not erase past injustices. Be you. Do not apologize for who you need to be today.

There are resources and people here for you and throughout the university.  Know that you are not alone and we are here for you.
