Message From the Director

I am pleased to share with you the spring edition of the Honors e-newsletter. Our students and faculty have persevered through a challenging winter and continue to pursue the interdisciplinary research and knowledge needed to solve the real-world problems facing all of us. NSF Fellowships Go To Honors Alums

Awards. Glory. And of course, honor. It’s not unusual for our students to be showered with any of those things, and this past month was no exception. Rebecca Meacham ’21, a current Honors student, and Timothy Dunn ’19 and Seamus Ober ’20, both Honors alums, recently received prestigious National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships.

SMART Scholarship

A Head Start on Their Future

While our students typically secure prestigious placements after graduation, two Honors students already have a head start. Jack DiMeo ’23 and Samuel Gwinn ’23 recently received the Department of Defense’s Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation Scholarship, which, along with full tuition, internships and a stipend, also ensures employment with the DoD after graduation.

Stephen Casper

Casper Tapped By UK Board

Our Honors students are not the only ones receiving recognition for the caliber of their academic and personal achievements. Earlier this year, Associate Director of the Honors Program Stephen Casper was appointed to a UK-based advisory board overseeing a Wellcome Trust grant to explore acquired brain injury and neurodegenerative disease.

A Fully In-Person Fall

Clarkson University

Clarkson has released its plans for the fall of 2021. As President Tony Collins put it, our campus community’s “diligence, flexibility and creativity are what have allowed us to continue in-person education, research and creative activities.” And, guided by experts, we’ll carry on the same way in the fall.
