Lado Appointed Senior Advisor to the President On Anti-Racism at Clarkson University

Augustine Lado, who is currently serving as Dean of the David. D. Reh School of Business at Clarkson University has been appointed Senior Advisor to President Tony Collins on Anti-Racism for the coming year.

Lado is taking a leave of absence from the deanship in order to focus on initiatives aimed at making Clarkson an anti-racist institution. These include, establishing university-wide Anti-Racism Institute (an academic unit for fostering scholarship, teaching and learning, and outreach about anti-racism); supporting our efforts to increase the diversity of students, faculty and staff; facilitating curricular and co-curricular innovations to promote inclusive excellence; and creating a more safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for all.

“In order to impact change in society we must take action and work together to influence those around us in order to make the world a better place. We will work together to create dialogue and innovate new ways to conceive of a better way forward for our community as we address systemic racism,” said President Tony Collins.

“This important role will help move Clarkson’s anti-racism and academic diversity work ahead as we work towards a racial justice-centered society,” said Provost Robyn Hannigan.

Lado has served as Dean of the Reh School of Business since 2018. Previously, Lado served as Professor of Consumer and Organizational Studies. He was named the Richard ’55 and Joy Dorf Chair in Entrepreneurship and Innovation in the Reh School of Business in 2010. He brings more than 25 years of experience in higher education to this new role.

“I am honored to be chosen for this new role and look forward to working with President Collins, Chief Inclusion Officer Ball, Provost Hannigan, and my colleagues closely to find new ways to use our values, our education, and our research for the public good to help combat systemic racism across our society,” Lado said.

Diego Nocetti is stepping in as interim Dean of the Reh School for the coming academic year, effective July 1, 2021. Nocetti joined the Reh School of Business in 2006 after graduating with a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Memphis. He was named a full professor of economics and financial studies in 2017.

Lado has worked closely with University leadership to position the Reh School for its next phase of growth. Under his leadership the school has maintained its business accreditation by AACSB International–the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. AACSB Accreditation is the hallmark of excellence in business education and has been earned by fewer than five percent of the world’s business programs. Today, there are only 901 business schools in 58 countries and territories that maintain AACSB Accreditation.

Lado’s scholarship in strategic management spans multiple boundaries of academic disciplines, including economics, organizational behavior and human resource management, entrepreneurship, and philosophy. It is also international in scope, integrating competitive and cooperative global strategies that firms use to gain and sustain strategic advantage.

Lado earned a Fulbright Scholarship and currently serves on the Fulbright Review Board. He has served on various university and school of business faculty committees.

Lado has presented his research at national and international conferences and workshops and authored or co-authored more than 25 technical papers and reports appearing in such premier journals as The Academy of Management Review, Strategic Manage Journal, Journal of Operations Management, and Journal of Management, among others. He teaches courses in strategic management, business ethics, and entrepreneurship at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Lado received his bachelor of business administration degree from the University of Khartoum, Sudan. He received a master of business administration degree from Arkansas State University and a Ph.D. in business administration from the University of Memphis. Prior to joining Clarkson University in 2002 as an associate professor of consumer and organizational studies, he taught at Cleveland State University’s College of Business Administration, where he served as Associate Dean for Graduate Programs and Research and Director of the Doctor of Business Administration Program.
