COVID-19 Read: Example Message Notifying Groups of Positive Case

Faculty and Staff,

As part of contingency planning related to COVID-19 and prioritizing the health and safety of the campus community, we are sharing below a version of a message that will go to students and their faculty or staff member when an individual who has been in a class, club or other group gathering is known to have tested positive for COVID-19.

Under current guidelines directed by Public Health, fully vaccinated individuals at the time of exposure to COVID-19 cases who remain asymptomatic will not be asked to quarantine, but will be asked to take additional precautions for mask wearing and to monitor their personal health more closely.

If you have any questions or concerns about this communication that is part of our campus response for potential cases, please let us know.

Hello _________

This email is to inform you that someone in your SUBJECT ### class on DATE has tested positive for COVID-19. Please review the information below. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the Office of the Dean of Students at 315-268-6620 or deanofstudents@clarkson.edu.

Vaccinated individuals: People who are fully vaccinated do NOT need to quarantine after contact with someone who had COVID-19 unless they have symptoms.  Vaccinated people should get tested 3-5 days after their exposure, even if they don’t have symptoms and wear a mask indoors for 14 days following exposure or until their test result is negative. Please wear a mask in all settings, including your residential unit.  If you develop COVID-19 symptoms at any point, you should get tested immediately. For testing locations through St Lawrence Health System, click here. If you require medical care, contact Student Health and Counseling (315-268-6633), Urgent Care (315) 261-5525, or your physician. In case of an emergency, contact 9-1-1.

Unvaccinated individuals: Dependent upon your class attendance and proximity to the positive case, you may receive a phone call from Public Health or the University on behalf of Public Health notifying you of a requirement to quarantine. The University will not be providing quarantine housing. To prepare for the possibility that you are required to quarantine, it is recommended that you connect with your family to discuss quarantine planning. Based on guidance from the CDC, please get tested 3-5 days after exposure. It is important that you monitor yourself for COVID-19 symptoms. Continue to wear a mask in all settings and limit contact with others until you receive a negative test result or for 14 days after exposure. If you are quarantined by the Public Health, you must comply with all quarantine requirements. If you develop COVID-19 symptoms at any point, you should get tested immediately. For testing locations through St Lawrence Health System, click here. If you require medical care, contact Student Health and Counseling (315-268-6633), Urgent Care, or your physician. In case of an emergency, contact 9-1-1.
