COVID Read & Act: Mask Wearing Continues in Some Settings/ Optional in Others

Thank you to the 3,000+ members of the Clarkson community who responded to our survey on mask wearing as New York State shifts its COVID-19 response from pandemic to endemic measures citing the declining positivity rates and other data related to the Omicron variant that support moving forward.

For the time being and to be reevaluated periodically during the balance of the semester, the following mask policies will apply when you are on Clarkson campuses.

  • Everyone is required to wear a mask in the classroom.
  • Faculty/ presenters have the option to remove their mask in the classroom.
  • Everyone is required to wear a mask in the Student Health Center and the College Connector bus/public transportation to continue to comply with the components of the NYS mask mandate that remain in place.
  • Everyone is required to carry a mask with them on campus.
    • People can post  “Thank you for wearing a mask*” on their office/ residence door and then it is required for visitors to that office/residence to wear one in interactions in these spaces.
  • Mask wearing is optional in all other indoor locations on campus at this time.
    • As part of exercising Clarkson’s value of caring, everyone is requested to respect when someone wearing a mask near you indoors asks you to wear a mask, that you then wear one.

We have consulted with external experts who have responded that our masking plan is reasonable.  Clarkson is a safe place to work, live, study and visit.  We have a robust vaccination requirement; policies in place for persons who are sick, including accessible COVID-19 testing for symptomatic individuals, and for persons who want optional testing; and we continue to encourage good hand hygiene and social distancing practices. Our campus’ active case count remains low and there have been no COVID-19 hospitalizations or deaths in our University community.  There is a steady overall decline in our respective regional communities’ case counts as well.

Thank you for being Golden Knights caring about your community.
