Clarkson composting in the news!

Watertown Channel 7 news had a clip last night regarding the new composting facility at Whitten Farm, Winthrop AND new efforts at Clarkson to separate food waste from other landfill trash. A community grant project funded by the NYSP2I to the Potsdam Climate Smart Communities program and Clarkson initiated discussions about the demand for compost facilities in the region. The ISE/CSC team worked with the Whitten Family to help establish this new commercial enterprise. Post-consumer food waste from the Servery, Ro-Bro and apartments are now being picked up for composting at Whitten Farms. Pre-consumer food waste from Cheel and Ro-Bro go to our on-campus anaerobic digester managed by Dr. Stefan Grimberg to create biogas and digestate fertilizer.
