First in Series of Introductions of President-Elect Christensen to the Clarkson Community – June 8, 2022

Message from Presidential Transition Committee

In this communication:

Dear Clarkson Community,

As announced on March 24, 2022 the Clarkson University Board of Trustees elected Marc P. Christensen, PhD, PE to serve as the 17th President of Clarkson University, effective July 1, 2022.

The Clarkson Board of Trustees also appointed a Presidential Transition Committee co-chaired by Trustee Karel Czanderna ‘77 and Professor of Economics and Financial Studies Bebonchu Atems to help President-elect Christensen understand Clarkson’s current and long-term opportunities and challenges, and to build connections and relationships with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and parents.

The President-elect and the Transition Committee are eager to hear from you and begin more introductions to the Clarkson community. To that end, the President-elect will hold four separate one-hour webinars open to all members of the Clarkson faculty and staff on Wednesday June 8, 2022 using questions and topic areas polled in advance.

Please register for the webinar at: https://clarkson.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_h_-9COFqTRSLtlHBMGgnEQ

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email with information on how to join the webinar. All webinars will also be streamed in Science Center 360. While all webinars are open to all members of the Clarkson community, we recommend that you attend the session most closely linked to your academic/staff unit where questions from your group will be used (you are welcome to attend a different session if you have a conflict).

The times for the webinars are as follows:

  1. Staff in Athletics, Facilities & Services, Office of Information Technology, Financial Affairs, and Human Resources:

Time: 9:00 a.m. EDT

  1. Faculty in the School of Arts and Sciences, the Lewis School of Health Sciences, the Graduate School, and the Institute for STEM Education:

Time: 11:00 a.m. EDT

  1. Staff in Admissions, Academic Support/Student Engagement (Student Success Center), Development and Alumni Relations, Marketing & External Relations, DEI, Student Achievement, Student Affairs, Library, Ignite, The Clarkson School, The Honors Program, The Shipley Center, the Office of Institutional Research, Capital Region Campus, Beacon, Pier 26, and all other staff members:

Time: 1:00 p.m. EDT

  1. Faculty in the Coulter School of Engineering, the Reh School of Business, and the Institute for a Sustainable Environment

Time: 3:00 p.m. EDT

Google Forms will be used to collect questions that are at the forefront of the minds of the faculty and staff. The questions will be curated for common topic themes and will be provided to President-elect Christensen 48 hours before the webinars. The Google Form can be accessed via https://forms.gle/1BEAuNZq9Bs89ytm7. Please submit your questions by May 31, 2022.

During each webinar, President-elect Christensen will make introductory remarks, then respond to the question and topic areas in a dialogue facilitated by the deans and institute directors in the case of the faculty webinars, and by selected administrative staff during the staff webinars.

A website dedicated to sharing information on the transition and for providing a means for members of the community to further engage with the President-elect and the Transition Committee is forthcoming.  A summary of these four webinars will be collated and made available to members of the Clarkson community who are unable to attend the webinars.

Thank you for your participation in this important effort. As a key stakeholder in the University, your participation will be crucial in identifying issues that are top of the priority list for our faculty and staff, and important for the success of the new President.

Sincerely,

The Clarkson University Presidential Transition Committee
