CURE 2022: Kicks Off with Inclusive Teaching Challenge Winners

Clarkson Faculty, Staff and Graduate Students are encouraged to join the next CURE coming Wednesday, June 15. Get excited as you read below to learn more…

Recap from First CURE on June 1: CURE welcomed several challenge winners as they shared a sampling of inclusive teaching practices at work in Clarkson online and in person classrooms. There was great interest as attendees learned from others how methods and tools are used to open up dialogue and engage students. Attendees from Capital Region Campus and beyond joined for an engaging virtual exchange.

At CURE on June 1, Effective, Inclusive Teaching Challenge Prize Winner Dr. Craig Merrett shared examples of how he encourages students to be familiar with biographies and the challenges of underrepresented pioneers of the aerospace engineering industry. “My aim is to push the aerospace engineering students to realize that not everyone has the same access to the field and be aware of what they can do to remove barriers,” explains Merrett.

Next CURE on June 15: Dr. Sue Powers | Institute of Sustainability will offer a brief update on campus sustainability efforts, including how campus and other waste contributes to renewable energy generation. Participants will journey to the Digester located on Potsdam campus for a first hand account to see how it works!

Future CURE on June 22: Be sure to tune in as guests of the Potsdam Chamber will share about current community/campus engagement activities; followed by an opportunity to complete a hands-on leadership experience hosted by Clarkson’s own Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) program.

Join fellow faculty, staff and graduate students of the Clarkson community at this year’s Clarkson’s Unconference Refresh Event (CURE) for conversation, community, cool things, culture and more! In person and virtual options available.

CURE is a popular summertime event where connections and conversations happen each week with brief general sessions, thought generating group discussion, featured guests and time for reflection. Feedback from CURE participants is that they always learn about something or someone new at Clarkson!
