This week’s blog: All about UNIV190, one of your first year classes.

Hello and welcome to Clarkson!

My name is Dr. Propst and I’m the Coordinator of UNIV 190: The Clarkson Seminar, one of the classes you’ll be taking this Fall.

The Clarkson Seminar is a 3-credit critical thinking and writing class. That may sound like just another English class, but the Clarkson Seminar is different: it’s a chance to read and talk about big-picture ideas that affect our lives beyond the classroom.

Every Clarkson Seminar class has a different theme, ranging from “The Quest for Truth” to “Rebels and Heroes” to “Illness in Society.” Before the semester starts, you’ll get to choose a “Theme Cluster,” a broad topic that includes a number of different Clarkson Seminar sections, each with its own theme. You can see the Theme Clusters here.

Please check out our blog post to read some of our professors’ Top Tips to be successful in UNIV 190. You can also watch our short video on the “why” behind The Clarkson Seminar.

Have a great summer, and I look forward to seeing you on campus this Fall!

With best wishes,
Dr Lisa Propst
