Tips & Tricks for New Clarkson Students Like You!

As you continue to make preparations to join the Clarkson family this fall, we’ve compiled a list of 8 Things You Should Do/Know. Check it out!

  1. Make sure you continue to check your Enrolled Student To Do List. Your admissions counselor is happy to help if you have any questions about the process or remaining items on your list.
  2. The Golden Knight meal plan is recommended for First Year Residential Students but you’re able to change your meal plan selection during the first two weeks of classes! Commuter students can also enroll in the Pioneer Plan if you’ll be spending a lot of time on campus during meals and you can add Declining Balance on your card at any time. Check out the Campus Dining website for more information about your meal plan options.
  3. Are the different types of what to bring lists overwhelming your packing plans? Check out this 8×10 rug, or smaller that fits perfectly into the First-Year Residence Halls. Check out the what to bring/not bring list on the Residence Life website for more recommendations and don’t forget to talk to your roommate to coordinate who is bringing what items that will be shared.
  4. If you’re starting to think about decorating your room and how to make it feel most-homey, we have some tips on how to move your twin XL bed to maximize your comfort. The beds are on frames which students can raise and lower from floor level to 4ft up (to the top of the mattress). Rooms are equipped with blinds so no curtains are needed. Make sure to follow all Residential Fire Safety Guidelines when decorating. It is also encouraged to look into getting your own dorm room insurance, as the university does not insure your belongings.
  5. Keep this handy list of important phone numbers of offices you may need to contact prior to your arrival on campus including admissions and different support services.
  6. Not sure which laptop or PC to purchase? Our Office of Information Technology (OIT) has a page dedicated to recommended computer specs for your laptop. OIT is also here to help with some software and computer repair needs and we have HP certified technicians right here on the Tony Collins Hill Campus. Check out OIT’s pricing and hours here.
  7. Each student is given a $24 printing allowance for fall and spring semester, so you don’t need to purchase your own printer. Take a look at our on-campus printing locations as you prepare to learn your way around campus.
  8. We want to keep your family as part of the Clarkson family! Have your parents or supporters subscribe to the Clarkson University Parent and Family Newsletter, published monthly during the academic year.

As always, please let us know if you have any questions or need assistance with anything, we’re here to help you during this exciting transition!
