Melissa E. King has been appointed assistant professor of chemistry & biomolecular science at Clarkson University.
She received her Ph.D. in chemistry from Wesleyan University and her bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Central Connecticut State University.
King’s research interests are in the investigation of light-activated, plasmonic, metal nanoparticles, including gold and silver, employing electrophotocatalytic methods toward enhanced catalytic activity under irradiation with broadband light; and probing the structural and electronic manipulation of plasmonically active bimetallic nanocatalysts through the combination of noble, transition, and post-transition metals.
She has co-published in a number of academic journals, including the Journal of the American Chemical Society, the Journal of Physical Chemistry, Nanoscale, Current Opinion in Colloid & Interface Science, Journal of Materials Chemistry A, and Particle & Particle Systems Characterization. She has also delivered a number of invited talks at seminars and professional conferences.
King is a recipient of the American Fellowship from the American Association of University Women and the Tishler Teaching Award from Wesleyan University.
She previously served as a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell.
