Housing Lottery Spring 2023

Residential Students:

We are excited to work with all students related to their housing for the upcoming year. Below is important information for you to know about Housing Lottery, please read it thoroughly and carefully.

Required Housing Contract:
  • The Housing Contract will be available via myCU on Friday, March 10th, at 8:00 am.
  • To receive your lottery number, you must complete your Housing Contract in myCU.
    • You may access this by logging into your myCU account and selecting the housing link located at the bottom left of the main page. You will need to choose the 2023 – 2024 academic year.
Important Information and Deadlines:
  • Students who do not participate in the Housing Lottery, (unless they are otherwise approved for alternative housing through the Office of Residence Life) will be automatically signed up for housing where space is available. This is done at the discretion of the Office of Residence Life and students are subject to all housing-related charges.
  • In-person Housing Lottery will occur in the Cheel Barben Rooms and Club 99.
  • Students that cannot attend the lottery will be able to complete a Proxy Form which will grant permission for another student to select their housing.  The student selecting their housing must have a completed copy of the Proxy Form (found on KnightLife) with them to select housing for the student not attending the lottery.  The form can be found on the Office of Residence Life KnightLife page.
  • Housing Lottery Number (average group number for apartments & mixed cohort or individual number for students without roommate request & same cohort roommate requests).
  • University Student Regulations on student housing (section X).
  • Clarkson University is a 4-year residential campus which means that students are required to live on campus unless granted a housing exemption on a yearly basis by the Office of Residence Life.
  • Students entering their 5th year are not required to live on campus but can be issued a lottery number upon request. Contact the Office of Residence Life for more information.
Apartment Style Housing:
  • All students who are in a group that would like to reserve an apartment are required to complete the appropriate Multiple Selection Form on Knight Life.
  • All Multiple Selection Forms will open on March 10th and are due by March 26, 2023 at 4:30pm through Knight Life (https://knightlife.clarkson.edu/) late forms will not be considered.
  • Students will be notified on March 27th via email of their groups approval or denial. Only the primary contact of the group will be contacted and those approved will be invited to select the housing location for the group.
  • Multiple Selection apartment assignments will begin on March 28 at 5:00pm in the Cheel Barben rooms.
    1. Students may sign-up in groups of 2, 3, 4, 6 or 7, regardless of their cohort.
    2. Once the group size is decided the group must submit the Multiple Selection Form on Knight Life.
    3. Students may only apply for two group sizes.
    4. Placement is based on an average of the collective lottery numbers. Groups cannot be increased or decreased in size after submitting an application.
Ham/Pow Housing:
  • FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS: If you receive a “high lottery number”, you may be interested in the “Ham/Pow Plan” which allows you to choose a double room in Hamlin-Powers without attending the lottery; by doing so you will avoid a long wait. The rooms on the fourth floor and center core of Hamlin Powers are not available for pre-lottery selection. You may sign up for up to 6 blocks of rooms with friends, the form will be available via Knight Life on March 10th.
  • The Ham/Pow Plan Multiple Selection Form can be found on the Residence Life page within Knight Life (https://knightlife.clarkson.edu/).
  • The Ham/Pow Plan Multiple Selection Form will be due on March 26, 2023 at 4:30pm.

  • All Multiple Selection Forms will open on March 10th and are due by March 26, 2023 at 4:30pm through Knight Life (https://knightlife.clarkson.edu/)
  • Students will be notified on March 27th via email of their approval or denial.
  • This will enable you to avoid attending the lottery; by doing so you will avoid a long wait.
  • This option is only available for those in Moore, Hamlin, Powers, Olson, Vannote, Donahue, Wilson, and Thomas *excluding suites larger than 4 person occupancy.
    1. Students with existing housing accommodations (regardless of where they live on campus) can request their same room through the housing accommodation renewal.
    2. Students can re-reserve their own bed space in the above areas, and “pull in” one roommate (shared bedroom only) of the same cohort or above them.
    3. Open bed spaces will be available for any student to fill during the housing lottery selection process.
  • If you re-reserve your room, you are no longer eligible to enter other aspects of the lottery.
  • Students will not be able to store items in their room over the summer, all items must be removed for summer closing. Any left items will be subject to discard.
Cohort Housing:
  • If a student in any cohort does not participate in either process listed above then that student will use their individual Housing Lottery Number to select housing.
  • Student groups, who are part of the same cohort, can use the lowest number to select their housing (outside of the apartments).
  • Students who are part of the group but not in the same cohort must wait until their cohort’s day to select housing. If the space with their selected group is still available they may request that space.
  • If you are planning on going on a CO-OP, abroad trip, or living in an approved off-campus theme house you should reserve a room on campus if you are not approved at the time of your housing selection night.
