Cold Weather is Coming: Be Prepared

The coldest air mass of the season will bring dangerously cold wind chills to Potsdam beginning Friday, February 3, at 1:00 a.m. into the first half of Saturday, February 4. The National Weather Service anticipates daytime cold temperatures on Friday and early Saturday combined with very brisk northwest winds will create dangerously cold wind chills of -32°F in our area.

Cold temperatures and dangerously cold wind chills will increase the threat of hypothermia and cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes. These cold temperatures could also have impacts on mechanical systems such as heating systems and vehicles, so it is important to plan accordingly.

The CUSA Shuttle (Route 68), which is operated through St. Lawrence County Public Transit, has indicated that once students are on the bus, they can let the bus driver know where they want to get off and the bus driver will let them know if they are able to accommodate extra drop off stops (if there is a safe place to pull over, if there is enough time in the schedule, etc.)

If you believe you are experiencing hypothermia or frostbite, seek medical treatment as soon as possible.

Additionally, please ensure all campus windows are shut. Cold air from outside can freeze pipes and cause flooding.
