Jane Oppenlander, an Assistant Professor of Operations & Information Systems in the Reh School of Business, has received the Quality Matters certification for her online course, HC602, Advanced Statistics and Data Visualization.
The course was certified last month through the rigorous peer review process. Oppenlander says, “I’m pleased that the course passed muster and I’m indebted to Loretta [Driskel] (Graduate Instructional Design Specialist) for all the time and effort she has spent with me getting this course (along with my other courses) to this level.”
In order to meet Quality Matters review expectations using the Fifth Edition, 2014 QM Rubric, a course must meet each of the 21 essential standards (standards valued at 3 points). In addition, the course must receive a minimum of 84 (out of 99) points.
Clarkson University adopted Quality Matters as the standard for quality online course design in early 2017. The Graduate School, along with the Office of Information Technology and through the Teaching & Learning Corner, launched the initiative, and to date has trained more than 60 faculty on applying the QM rubric in their courses. Professor Oppenlander’s HC602 course is the third to receive QM certification at Clarkson.
The course is now listed in the QM database of award-winning courses from colleges and universities across the nation. Additionally, the QM Seal of Recognition will now be displayed on the front page of her online course.
