Please VOTE! for a campus project to receive $20k Sustainability Fund!

Dear Clarkson Community,

Please vote on this year’s Sustainability Fund project! We will direct the $20k fund to the winning project. During the academic year, a team of faculty, staff and students will complete project design with implementation expected sometime late spring or summer 2019.

The projects are:

  • “Green Up” Clarkson’s innovation areas
  • Sustainably manage Clarkson’s forest
  • Manage food waste with the anaerobic digester
  • Redesign and rebuild the campus greenhouse with an integrated observation bee hive
  • Improve campus bicycling infrastructure
  • Create a campus digital energy dashboard with screen displays throughout campus

Background: The annual Sustainability Fund has been a long-standing avenue for engaging a cross section of campus in sustainability initiatives. These efforts have resulted in actions ranging from the installation of water refill bottles to the creation of a campus garden. Last year we changed how we use the fund. Instead of several small projects we decided to support one large project each year to have a greater, more focused impact.

Six projects with faculty and staff facilitators have been proposed, one of which will be selected for implementation. Some of the projects have aspects that can include the CRC campus. The project selected for this year will be determined based on a campus-wide vote AND on the willingness of our community to engage in the project planning and implementation. Please consider the options, vote for your favorite (10/18 – 10/30) and consider volunteering to be involved. Components of the projects could be integrated into class projects, student internships, club activities or service learning. For most of these projects, planning and feasibility assessments will continue through the spring semester with implementation to follow.

Questions? Students will be tabling the week of October 22, 11am-1pm in the Student Center to answer questions or send email to Dr. Susan Powers or Alex French.
