Subjects for Research Wanted Involving Continuous Human Computing

Dr. Stephanie Schuckers, Clarkson University, performs research in the area of biometrics and is looking for subjects willing to participate in her research efforts.  You must be >18 years of age to participate.  The project involves the study of continuous human computing activity, specifically keyboard activity to determine their effectiveness (either alone or in conjunction with traditional biometrics) as a means of human identification.

We are located in the CAMP195B.  If you choose to participate, we will set up an appointment for you to collect your biometric data.  There are no special preparations for the collection other than wearing comfortable clothing. Mobile sensor data will be collected using a computer in CAMP 195B and will be stored on secure computer.  You will be given tasks inside a mobile application. This task involves filling out the application with your personal information simulating a registration and forgot password scenario. A software program on the server will record your keystrokes and timestamps.

If you choose to participate, your involvement could include a total of 3 visits; during each visit your mobile sensor data will be collected using a computer.  Ideal subjects would be available for both visits; however, please note that participation is voluntary. Refusal to participate or deciding to discontinue participation at any time will involve no penalty or loss of benefits to which you are otherwise entitled.

The 1st visit will take approximately 1 hour. You will be compensated with $10 at the completion of the 1st visit. After 2-6 weeks, we will contact you to schedule your second visit. If you choose to return for a 2nd visit (approximately 1 hour in duration), you will be compensated with $15 at the completion of the 2nd visit. In case of completing a 3rd visit, you will be compensated with an additional $15.

If you are still interested in participating, please email us at biometrics@clarkson.edu with days and times that you are available to participate in our research.  Our scheduler will respond back to you to set up an appointment.

For the week of April 14, between 10AM-3PM on each work day, we will set up a sign-up table at the first floor of ERC (near Clarkson library) and we want volunteers to come to the sign-up table to enroll their names. Between the week of April 21 and the end of August, we will set up the sign-up table again on some selected weeks.

Your email address has been obtained from the Clarkson University’s office of News & Digital Content Services.

This biometric collection protocol has been approved through the Clarkson Institutional Review Board (irb@clarkson.edu and 315 268-6475): Approval #19-33.1.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.
