Faculty and friends seeking resources and connections with campus services are encouraged to attend May 13-15 for a Potsdam campus face-to-face based unconference style event (virtual attendees are also welcome) with AM info sharing and PM breakouts.
Coffee each morning starts at 8a. Come check it out.
Campus experts from The Shipley Center, Clarkson Ignite, Library, Sponsored Research Services, and Teaching & Learning Corner will be on hand at CURE to provide consult resources aimed at helping you.
Whether you are applying for a grant, looking for research partners, refreshing an activity in your course, finding academic sources, hosting an event or other – there are many questions to be answered along the way.
Attendees are encouraged to bring questions and ideas to share with others. Experts will be there to help you meet a current challenge, work through an upcoming project, or plan your summer’s work.

The Clarkson Unconference Refresh Event is designed to give campus faculty and community members the space (in their calendars, mindset and outlook) to come together with peers to collaborate, innovate and create.

Day 1 after Commencement 2019, CURE kicks off summer when attendees are asked to exchange information about a current initiative or challenge (1 slide, 5 min.’s max!) with the aim to uncover synergies with others in the room. Attendees will act on newly discovered possibilities (i.e. get real work done with others in the same mindset!) in breakout sessions and informal gatherings.

Garden Time: Feel the warm sunshine in Clarkson’s campus garden on the afternoon of May 13th (here’s hoping) as THE PERFECT time to get a little dirty. Feel how fresh air, dirt and a little elbow grease can soothe the sole in this hands on outing. Gloves and outdoor clothing recommended.
Nature Walk: Explorers will delight in the sites of the natural landscape that is our campus backyard on this guided nature walk. Professor Tom Langen, Chair of the Biology Department will share his perspective on this natural outdoor beauty along with steps the campus is making to protect its future. Good walking shoes that are not afraid of getting a little wet recommended, bug spray optional.
Bike Tour: Clear the mind as you spend the afternoon venturing through the surrounding community as you leave campus with your cycling cohort. Dr. Kerop Janoyan, Dean of the Graduate School, known to enjoy a good pedal from Potsdam to South Colton and back in an afternoon, will lead this this outing. All skill levels welcome and tour will match interests of participants. BYOBike.
Makerspace Demo: Curious about what is behind the glass on the first floor ERC? Want a chance to 3D print? Better yet – want to consider how to use it with your students? Here’s your chance to get a start. Come look, listen, make in the Makerspace with Erin Draper, Managing Director of Clarkson Ignite.
What is an Unconference?
“An un-conference is any event where the agenda is set by those who attend. The rules of an un-conference are simple:
Rule #1: Whoever shows up are the right people
Rule #2: Whatever happens is fine
Rule #3: Whenever it starts is the right time
Rule #4: It is over when it’s over”
Why CURE?
CURE is hosted by Clarkson’s Institute for STEM Ed’s Workshops/Talkshops/Thoughtshops Task Force in support of the Institute’s vision to help establish Clarkson University as a national leader in all aspects of STEM (and broader) Education.
The WTT Task Force’s goal is to provide opportunities for the CU community, and others to share ideas, identify collaborators and develop strategies for improving STEM education.
Who should attend CURE?
While the WTT Task Force believes this event will be of greatest value to Clarkson’s early and mid career faculty, we welcome anyone with a mind set to grow something this summer.
