Greenhouse Project: Volunteer Days Update

Volunteers needed!

The new greenhouse at the west end of Cheel now has walls! Matt Hawthorn (BS E&M ’19 and current MS ESE) and Alex Roberts (BS EnvE ’19) have done the bulk of the work with A LOT of expertise, equipment and time from the grounds crew (Thank you!!). They will be looking for volunteers every day for the next two weeks. In order to meet the deadline of a watertight structure by August 15th, we need as much help as we can get. Volunteers can contribute as little as 2 hours in a given day, or as much as a full day if possible. Start times for volunteers will always be 9 am, with ending times at 3:30 pm. We will provide personal protective equipment and food. Activities that volunteers will be helping with include:

Insulation installation
Rubber floor installation
Lifting objects between 10-50 lbs
Raking
Shoveling
Using a sledgehammer
Using other hand tools

The greenhouse reconstruction project was made possible through the 2019 Sustainability Fund. Engineering students in a series of capstone design classes over the last two years designed the new structure. Questions about the volunteer opportunities can be addressed to Matt (hawthomd@clarkson.edu ; 860/558-1663)
