Clarkson University’s Shipley Center was recently named a top five finalist for the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers’ (GCEC) Outstanding Contributions to Venture Creation Award. The GCEC held their conference and the awards ceremony last month in Stockholm, Sweden.

The nomination form mentioned various businesses that exist in the North Country today due to the help of the Shipley Center like; Agbotic, Birch Boys Chaga Tea, LC Drives, and Parker’s Real Maple products. The Shipley Center partners with other academic institutions, chambers of commerce, industrial development authorities, and angel investors, among others, to keep grow companies and to provide specialized resources to their network.

The GCEC is the premier academic organization addressing the emerging topics of importance to the nation’s university-based centers for entrepreneurship. It has become the vehicle by which the top, established entrepreneurship centers, as well as emerging centers, can work together to share best practices, develop programs and initiatives, and collaborate and assist each other in advancing, strengthening, and celebrating the role of universities in teaching the entrepreneurs of tomorrow. The GCEC current membership totals 225+ university-based entrepreneurship centers ranging in age from well-established and nationally ranked to new and emerging centers. Each year a global conference is held on the campus of an GCEC member school.
The Shipley Center for Innovation supports a wide range of entrepreneurs and innovators seeking to launch new businesses and commercialize cutting edge technologies. This support is available for Clarkson University students, faculty and alumni, as well as local community members thanks to New York State’s Innovation Hot Spot Program. Services include: feasibility analysis, market analysis, prototyping, provisional patent filing, customer development, business formation, marketing and branding, incubator space, ignition grants, workshops, investor connections, NYS tax incentives, and networking.
