Dear Clarkson Labs,
Clarkson’s Green Labs Initiative was launched last year through a partnership with the ISE and the EHS departments. It aims to train lab users to implement sustainable practices that increase lab safety and minimize environmental impact.
Regarding chemical use, please take advantage of the following resources:
- MIT’s “Green Chemistry Wizard”: This tool identifies alternatives for hazardous chemicals
- MSDSonline: This is Clarkson’s electronic chemical inventory and safety data sheet management system. Before purchasing new chemicals check to see if we already have some on campus.
- Keep the MSDS system up to date by completing a Chemical Inventory Update form every time a new chemical is purchased or moved into your lab
Communication and coordination between labs are a vital part of lab sustainability.
