Clarkson Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering Professor Publishes 700th Paper

Clarkson University’s Robert H. Hill Professor of Mechanical Engineering Goodarz Ahmadi recently published his 700th research paper.

Ahmadi, whose areas of research include fluid mechanics, multiphase flows, computational fluid mechanics, aerosol transport and deposition, and other related topics, published “Accuracy of the CRW Models for Prediction of the Deposition and Dispersion of Particles in Inhomogeneous Turbulent Channel Flows, in Physics of Fluids as his 700th journal publication.” For a related paper he and his Ph.D. student, Amir A. Mofakham, won the Best Paper Award at the 2019 International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition.

Ahmadi has been at Clarkson since 1982 and his research has been supported by federal agencies, namely, National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, Environmental Protection Agency, Defense Threat Reduction Agency, and Air Force Office of Scientific Research, as well as a number of industries including GE, IBM, Corning, Xerox, Kodak, and Dura Pharmaceutical.

Ahmadi is a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and also a fellow of the American Society of Thermal and Fluid Engineering (ASTFE). He was the recipient of the 2016 ASME Freeman Scholar Award and ASME Fluid Engineering 90th Anniversary Medal. He was inducted into Phalanx in 2015 and was the recipient of the Clarkson Lifetime Research Achievement Award in 2015. He received The Phalanx Commendable Leadership Award in 2015, was named Clarkson University Outstanding Advisor in 1986, 1988 and 2002, received the University Distinguished Teaching Award in 1988 and the Pi Tau Sigma Distinguished Teaching Award in 1984, 1986, 1988 and 1990. He is also a member of the University Five Million Dollar Club since 2006. Ahmadi has also co-authored three books, with his most recent book on fluid and particle dynamics in the human respiratory system published in 2013. He has also given more than 1,200 presentations, including 160 plenary and keynote lectures and invited talks at international conferences worldwide. He serves on the editorial board and the Editorial Advisory Board of 12 international journals. He holds five patents.

Ahmadi said he has published more frequently in recent years, and plans to continue working with students and colleagues at Clarkson.

“I hope to enjoy teaching students and do more research,” Ahmadi said. “I love and enjoy teaching and research.  It is always a pleasure to work with undergraduate and graduate students. It has been a lot of fun.”
