Undergraduate faculty research award notification

It is with great pleasure that Clarkson University announces the recipients of the 2019/20 undergraduate faculty research awards. The undergraduate faculty research award is an annual faculty award sponsored by the Provost for faculty that do not have access to graduate student funding. The

award is capped at $5,000 and can be used for undergraduate research assistants, equipment to undergraduate research and/or travel. This year, the awards committee received seven proposals and thanks to hard work and dedication of the selection committee, led by Professors Stefan Grimberg and Stephen Bird, five proposals were selected for funding.

The recipients and their respective research project titles are as follows:

  • Drs. Casper and Brown, “Trudeau/Clarkson Research Opportunities for Undergraduates in the History of Medicine to Develop an Exhibit Celebrating the History of the Trudeau Sanatorium and Institute”
  • Dr. DeWaters, “Reimagining a Culturally Sustaining Approach to Engineering Education”
  • Drs. Lee, Propst, Robinson, Ball, “Augmented Columbus”
  • Dr. Madraki, “Graph-theoretically Analyzing the Behavior of Polarized Networks and Balancing and Mitigating Approaches for Polarization”
  • Drs. Towler, LaComb, & Boolani, “The Role of Mitochondrial Capacity and VO2 in Changes in Feelings of Stress, Fatigue and Vigor in Older Adults: A pilot study”

The Undergraduate Faculty Research Award is a great opportunity for faculty who do not have access to graduate students to secure funding to support their scholarly activities. Ensuring that our faculty excellence is supported through multiple pathways to success is a core value for my office and one I eagerly look forward to building and growing with you all.  The work proposed by our faculty is innovative and with competitive proposals and a sincere dedication to supporting a breadth of work, I encourage more faculty to submit proposals in the next round in Fall 2020.

If you would like to know more about this funding program, our IGNITE Graduate Fellowship program (pitches to funders for selected proposals will occur March 23 – more details to come), and other opportunities to advance faculty scholarship, don’t hesitate to reach out!

And don’t forget to share your good news and submit a ‘nugget’ click here or explore our current nuggets to learn more the incredible work done by our faculty .  For those who have submitted nuggets already they have proven VERY useful for marketing, fund raising, and communications to our board and others so keep them coming!

Congratulations to this year’s awardees!
