Message for Students Traveling Abroad

From: Jeff Taylor AVP Student Affairs & Global Initiatives

Student Community,

The Deputy Commissioner of the Office of Public Health for NYS Department of Public Health has sent Clarkson– and all NYS higher education institutions – a form to complete on all students returning from a country impacted by COVID19 including both sponsored travel such as study abroad programs and also personal time spent in those countries in the last 30 days (February 3, 2020 to present.) Public Health representatives may use this information to reach out to students for more information and to ensure your health.

Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, which sets the parameters on what can be shared, some information can be disclosed in an emergency and to protect the health or safety of the student or other individuals.

We have had a limited number of students returning from study abroad and will be reaching out to them directly to respond to this request.   If you can share your information* with us on your international travel in Level 2 and 3 countries (currently Japan (2), Iran, China, Italy, South Korea), we will submit it on your behalf.  If you have any questions, please contact Jeff Taylor, AVP Student Affairs & Global Initiatives, jdtaylor@clarkson.edu, 315-268-5978.
