COVID-19: Message to All Potsdam Undergraduates With Essential Items in Campus Residences

Message to All Potsdam Undergraduates With Essential Items in Campus Residences

In order to be compliant with the New York State directives, students who already have their essential items (course materials, learning technologies, one week worth of clothing, and medications & medical devices) will not be allowed to return to campus until further notice.  It is our goal to have all students return to campus/regular instruction this spring and resume normal operations.  The decision on when in-person classes can resume depends upon further directives from New York State.  If the University will not be able to  allow students to return to campus this semester, arrangements will be made for students to move out.

COVID-19 has had a global impact.  The communities we all call home, our campus and you are not alone in navigating the evolving circumstances as our local, state and national representatives seek to prioritize the health and well-being of everyone.  Thank you for working with us in this fluid situation.

For students who have been away for Spring Break and who did not take their essential items, we will follow the procedure below:

1. Students need to contact Residence Life (reslife@clarkson.edu) at least two business days in advance with the following information: specific essential items needed and requested date/time of pickup. We will only pack essential items: course materials, learning technologies, one week worth of clothing, and medications & medical devices. When students make this request, they are granting permission for University personnel to enter their living space to retrieve items. Students, families, etc. will not be permitted to enter campus facilities in order to best protect Clarkson and local communities from possible spread of COVID-19.

2. Residence Life will notify students if their pickup request is approved or denied as soon as possible. Students who have not been contacted by Residence Life should not come to campus.

3. If the request is approved, staff will pack requested essential items for students/families to pick up.

4. Pickup occurs on the sidewalk in the upper Cheel parking lot outside of Price Hall. Students/families must call the number provided in their approval email to inform staff that they have arrived. Staff will place the items on the sidewalk and walk away before students/families get out of their vehicle. This pickup method is used to minimize contact between parties.

Please note this process is subject to change based on information from local, state, and federal guidance.

Optional Shipping:

For those students who do not want to travel distances to pick up their essential items, the same procedure as set forth above may be followed, except the University will arrange to have them shipped to the student at the student’s expense.  If this is a financial hardship, please speak to the Dean of Students, 315-268-6620, to discuss alternatives.
