Welcome to another edition of the Coulter School of Engineering newsletter. In this issue, we are highlighting student and faculty activities. By the time this gets to you, we will have started our fall semester — with a large percentage of our students on campus.
Getting ready for this semester has been a huge undertaking, and I want to thank all faculty and staff for their efforts and cooperation in doing everything we can to make our campus safe while maintaining a great educational experience for our students. Clarkson Researchers Accept Governor’s Challenge
With all that has been going on in the world, it’s easy to forget about problems that have been eclipsed by more pressing crises. Fortunately, a group of Clarkson researchers hasn’t. They’ve been working on a new process to combat harmful algal blooms and are preparing to test it. READ MORE
Collaborating for a Safer Community
When a crisis hits, communities survive by coming together to share support, resources and expertise. Clarkson faculty and staff have certainly been doing their part during the pandemic by collaborating with the local healthcare system to devise solutions that enable enhanced, safer COVID-19 critical care. Virtual Amusement
Although the pandemic has shut down many fun activities, like riding roller coasters, it didn’t stop Clarkson’s Roller Coaster Engineering camp, which went virtual this summer. Secondary-school students from across St. Lawrence, Jefferson and Franklin counties still got to design an amusement park and roller coaster, all from the comfort of home. READ MORE
A Concrete Vision
Vision is a Clarkson value, but having a vision of a sustainable future isn’t valued only at Clarkson. The American Society of Testing and Materials recently recognized Professor Robert Thomas as an Emerging Professional for his work in advancing concrete materials technology to promote sustainable infrastructure.
