Clarkson Community,
As we continue to prepare for the spring semester and to welcome students back to campus in the New Year, we have made some updates to the academic calendar. As in the fall, we will again be asking students to stay on campus for the duration of the semester through final exams. We have worked with student leaders to restructure plans that are alternatives to breaks and spread them throughout the semester. These Break Days will be days without any classes but there will be once again fun activities planned on campus for you to participate in to provide a break from your rigorous academic course load, all without leaving the North Country.
In order to provide restorative breaks while still remaining vigilant about the spread of COVID-19, students will have three break days in February, and be given five spring break days throughout March and April, rather than five consecutive days off for a total of eight days with no classes during the Spring semester.
Due to the distribution of break days a change to the Clarkson Regulations, effective only for Spring 2021, will be brought to the Faculty Senate for review. This change will be proposed to allow assignments to be due after breaks, but not exams. We will ask all faculty to avoid having assignments due immediately following a break if they are able to but understand that doing so will be very difficult given the distribution of the break days. We will also propose that, as was the case in Fall 2020, there be no in-person evening exams or exams given outside of the assigned class time or final exam schedule.
As always, please refer to the daily digest emails for information about spring plans and campus updates.

As we make plans for commencement exercises, we are monitoring current guidance and NYS directives on gathering sizes in New York State, which currently has not exceeded more than 50 people. At this time, commencement ceremonies are tentatively scheduled to be held in person and we have contingencies in place for these to be held in a virtual format.
