March 9th and 10th Break Day Activities

Check out Tuesday and Wednesday’s Break Day Activities. The alternative to spring break offers a variety of activities like virtual yoga, relaxation day, and several Clarkson Ignite programs. Our goal is to stay on campus/in the region like we did last semester.

Virtual Yoga Classes

Tuesday, March 9th at 8:30 am and Wednesday, March 10th at 7:00 pm

Join Certified Yoga Instructors Sarah Oakley and Sarah Scafidi-McGuire from the Yoga Loft in Canton, NY for a virtual introductory yoga class on March 9th at 8:30am or March 10th at 7:00pm! Please join us by pre-registering for one of two classes at http://bit.ly/cuyoga

A Manduka yoga mat will be raffled off to the attendees of each class and we will announce the winners on our instagram @clarksonu.osl on March 11, 2021.

Clarkson Ignite Gallery and Showcase

Tuesday, March 9th and Wednesday, March 10th from 9 am – 4 pm

Clarkson Ignite will be showcasing programs and events at the Ignite Gallery in the ERC on Tuesday, March 9th and Wednesday, March 10th from 9 am until 4 pm each day. Students are encouraged to visit the stations to learn more by talking to students who have participated in the programs in the past. Six stations will be highlighting the following:  Dorf Makerspace, Digital Making Suite, North Country Regional Business Plan Competition, President’s Challenge, Badges and Micro-Credentialing, and the Shipley Center for Innovation: The CUBE. 

In addition to the Ignite Gallery, the Dorf Makerspace will have mini-workstations for in-person activities such as designing face masks, creating COVID-19 hands-free door openers, making tic-tac-toe sets – just to name a few activities available to students! Everyone will be required to social distance and wear face masks – hand sanitizer will be available at all stations. Light snacks will also be provided to our student visitors.

Relaxation Day, hosted by CUB, OSL, SSC, Res Life, and the Clarkson Counseling Center

Tuesday, March 9th from 12:00 – 2:00 pm (or until supplies last)

On the March 9th break day from 12-2pm (or until supplies last) in the Student Center, participate in a day of Relaxation. There will be grab and go DIY Zen Gardens, DIY Hand sanitizer, DIY Sugar scrubs, handheld puzzles, paint-by-number and positive window writing! 

Clarkson Ignite Speaker Series: Dr. Jayshree Seth ‘93

Wednesday, March 10th from 1:00 – 2:00 pm

Clarkson Ignite, with support from the Institute for STEM Education, Chief Inclusion Office, and Clarkson SWE, is pleased to present the second Ignite Speaker Series event of the semester featuring Dr. Jayshree Seth ‘93. Dr. Seth, Corporate Scientist and Chief Science Advocate for 3M, who graduated from Clarkson with a PhD in Chemical Engineering. She is the 2020 National Achievement Award recipient for the Society for Women Engineers, and recent author of The Heart of Science: Engineering Footprints, Fingerprints, and Imprints. During this special Speaker Series event, on Wednesday, March 10 from 1:00-2:00 PM she will talk about her book, specifically her efforts to promote access to STEM Education in underrepresented communities. Attendees will be encouraged to read the book ahead of the event in preparation for the talk and associated Q&A session. 

In an effort to promote accessibility for students, Clarkson Ignite and our co-sponsors have committed to providing Dr. Seth’s book to students for free upon registration.

The Emoji Game

March 10th, 7:00 – 8:00 pm

Join us Wednesday at 7pm on your own or with a small team to play the Emoji Game! The winner will receive a $50 prize for guessing the highest number of popular culture phenomena in current movies, music, books and television shows! Scan the QR code to join!

ISE Sustainability Challenge- Win a pair of AirPods!

This is the last week of the ISE’s Waste Awareness Sustainability Challenge before the AirPod raffle on March 15th! This week’s challenge is to calculate your plastic waste. According to 2018 EPA data, Americans produce 4.9 pounds of plastic per person per day. How much do you produce? Use this link to calculate your plastic waste, then take a screenshot of your results to send to pelusimg@clarkson.edu with the subject “Plastic Waste”. Every person who sends their results will get another entry into the raffle! Additionally, the ISE is working on becoming a partner with OrganiCup,a company who provides reusable menstrual cups for students to reduce waste production and provide secure access to feminine products.
