“Throughout her career at Clarkson, Dr. Michelle Crimi has displayed innovation in research, dedication in teaching, and, in recent years, vision as an academic leader”, says Provost Robyn Hannigan.

“To our graduate school and its growth into the future, she brings the cooperative leadership, entrepreneurial spirit, and dedication to excellence in graduate education.  Her work with leadership colleagues and the graduate school team must position Clarkson to attract talented, diverse graduate students, elevate our reputation, and diversify as well as enhance revenue. I have no doubt that she will build on Clarkson’s legacy of excellence in research and education in her new role,” she continues.

The Graduate School at Clarkson was reconstituted in July of 2016 following the merger of Clarkson and Union Graduate College. With the merger came a broader suite of professional degree program options, along with a presence in NY’s Capital Region.  The focus of the Graduate School from 2016 to the present has been on (1) expanding the world reach and diversity of the Clarkson community, (2) advancing the prominence of research and scholarship, (3) building a best-of-class admission, graduate, and alumni experience that assures lifetime engagement, and (4) delivering a financial plan with net return on investment to ensure the successful implementation of fulfilling the University’s goals and strategies. The Graduate School now supports over 1,500 Graduate Students enrolled in over 60 research and professional degree programs across three campuses – Potsdam, Capital Region, and Beacon.

Dr. Crimi plans to continue to strive toward these broader goals, with a specific focus on (1) implementing a structure for the school that enhances collaboration and efficiency; (2) developing and supporting new models for graduate and interdisciplinary education that foster a continuum of learning, where Clarkson’s strengths meet market demand; (3) delivering premier professional development opportunities for graduate students, postdocs, and early-career faculty; and (4) strengthening the ties between the Graduate School and Sponsored Research Services to advance Clarkson’s research impact and reputation.

Dr. Crimi’s strengths for this particular position include her interdisciplinary background, administrative experience, strong research record and reputation, collaborative mindset, and her dedication to the student experience.

“I am excited to continue working with the outstanding and dedicated Graduate School team. The greatest strength of the Graduate School is its people, who work incredibly hard to offer our prospective and current students the best possible experience,” says Crimi. “In collaboration with our Schools, Institutes, and Centers, we will grow our Continuing and Professional education opportunities; support student professional development, particularly in the areas of leadership, communication, and entrepreneurship; and we will focus on strengthening our research and technology transfer capacity.”
