Mohamed Hassan, a Chemistry Ph.D. student in Clarkson University Egon Matijevic Endowed Chair of Chemistry & Biomolecular Science Silvana Andreescu’s lab has won a travel award to the 240th Electrochemical Society’s (ECS) Meeting in October.
“Mr. Hassan’s presentation will describe the development of a monolithic cerium nanoparticle assembly as a platform for wearable electronics and environmental decontamination. Through tailored design and synthesis, Mr. Hassan discovered the ability of ceria nanoparticles to assemble into a monolithic structure, thus enabling large-scale fabrication into a solid-state processable form while maintaining their functionality and ability to recognize and detect solar radiation and identify emerging pollutants. These results are expected to help establish new design principles for developing the next generation technologies to measure radiation and associated conditions in the environment,” Professor Andreescu said.

The travel grant would allow him to present his very exciting work at the fall ECS meeting, and more importantly, to promote his novel finding and initiate new collaborations, and contacts with world-renowned electrochemistry and sensing experts. This all contributes to increasing Clarkson’s reputation nationally and internationally.” Andreescu said.
