Farideh Hosseini Narouei, who received her PhD from Clarkson in 2020 and currently works at the university as a research associate, recently received the Earth Institute (EI) Postdoctoral Research Program Fellowship at Columbia University.
The Earth Institute Postdoctoral Research program is the premier program in the world for those dedicated to a better understanding of critical scientific and social issues in global sustainable development, according to its website. Earth Institute Postdoctoral Researchers will join multidisciplinary teams of outstanding, committed scientists from across the Earth Institute and Columbia University.
Narouei will be funded by the Earth Institute to work with other current fellows, who come from some of the most competitive universities in the world, including fellows from schools like Princeton University, Harvard University and Cambridge University. Narouei is one of a very limited number of awardees among a large pool of applicants across a range of disciplines, including engineering, science, and health. She begins her fellowship on Sept. 1.
Narouei, a native of Zahedan, Iran, with a tribal background called Balochistan, said she believes her fellowship not only allows her to represent herself, but also represents the ability of women, people of underrepresented areas, and Clarkson graduates and fellows.
“This means a lot to me as this is not an achievement only for me,” Narouei said. “This is for all of us above to show that no matter how strong your competitors you think they are, with hardwork and confidence you can compete and win!”
Narouei considers Clarkson a second home, a place where she has felt support and was given an opportunity for a new beginning.
“I’m so proud of my degree from Clarkson and certainly as a Clarkson PhD holder,” she said. “Wherever I go and achieve, it will always be part of Clarkson achievements and recognition.”
