There are many unique issues and stressors that students of color often face that can contribute to struggles with the college experience. These can be particularly difficult for those attending predominantly and historically white institutions. The Counseling Center will be providing a support group for students of color who would like to talk with others in a safe and supportive space about experiences, and learn more about the impacts of common issues such as stereotype threat, micro aggressions, isolation, identity, and intergenerational trauma. The primary goal of the group is to support effective and healthy coping skills, promoting wellness and positive change.
These meetings will take place from noon – 1:15 PM on Wednesdays, starting February 16th. This group is free and will be facilitated by one of the counselors on staff at SHAC. Contact SHAC to register, call 315-268-6633 or email shac@clarkson.edu.
