Pablo Campos To Speak March 3 in Student Center

Clarkson is pleased to invite Pablo Campos to campus to share his story with mental health and substance use on Thursday, Mar 3, 2022 at 6:30pm in the Student Center Forum

Pablo Campos grew up angry and frustrated, not knowing why he had these feelings or how to express them positively. Despite a family history of depression, substance use disorder and anxiety, there was no discussion about mental health in his home. Lacking healthy coping skills, Pablo engaged in risk-taking behaviors including misuse of substances, eventually leading him to attempt to take his own life while still in high school. After multiple stays at inpatient facilities and finding proper treatment, Pablo began his road to recovery. He eventually gained further stability by adopting a strong work ethic, which began at the front desk of a health club. There he learned a great deal about having a healthy body and a healthy mind, and is a strong advocate for good nutrition, physical fitness and self-care. He now talks publicly about stigma and the lack of education around seeking help that delayed his recovery, and how building a strong network of professionals and loved ones has set him on a course for mental wellness. Pablo served as a founding member and president of the Active Minds chapter at Pensacola State College and also worked at the Crisis Action Referral Effort for Students or CARES office at Pensacola State. After receiving his AA in Social Work from PSC he moved to Raleigh, NC where he earned his Bachelor and Master of Social Work degrees from North Carolina State University working towards obtaining his LCSW.
