Raquette River Dragon Boat Festival at Postwood Park

***REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!***

The Clarkson University Lewis School of Health Sciences students will be hosting the first annual Raquette River Dragon Boat Festival at Postwood Park in Hannawa Falls, NY on July 16, 2022. There will be an inaugural craft fair, live music, free face painting & temporary tattoos for kiddos, kayak and paddleboard rentals for $5 an hour, access to the playground and beach volleyball, and food trucks to enhance our race day experience!

Multiple teams of 20 paddlers will go head to head in a sprint style race in traditional Hong Kong style dragon canoes. The canoes are 46 feet long with ten seats. A drummer will be positioned in the boat to pound out the stroke rhythm for the paddlers. This is not a measure of strength, but rather a measure of teamwork and true grit. Teams are encouraged to incorporate all genders, in fact there is a small time penalty for an all male team!

The program is hoping to use this event to promote pride, diversity and health and wellness in our community. This will provide an excellent opportunity for organizations to enhance teamwork, and to create financial growth to contribute to mission trips and/or other community outreach opportunities.
