Message From the Dean

I hope your summer is progressing well. Summer here in the New York North Country is beautiful and the perfect time to embark upon new endeavors and take stock of our accomplishments — as well as to enjoy the magnificent scenery of the Adirondacks nearby. This issue of the Lewis School newsletter celebrates the accomplishments of our outstanding students and faculty. We are all incredibly proud of them, and I hope you enjoy reading their stories.

Celebrating a Life

Awarded to a deserving physical therapy student, Clarkson’s Melissa A. Walsh ’03, ’05 Memorial Endowed Scholarship celebrates the life and legacy of one Golden Knight by aiding another who best represents her goals and qualities. This year, that Golden Knight is Jonathon Cummins DPT’23.

Transformative Work

Prof. Aaron Wolfe recently co-published a paper in Nature Communications on protein nanopores that has implications for disease diagnostics. He is also the chief science officer of Ichor, which specializes in structure-based drug discovery and translational medicine. This is just one more example of the transformative work emerging from our industry collaborations.

Up the OT Ladder

Assistant to associate — a leap Ashleigh Graveline made this past spring when she was promoted to clinical associate professor of occupational therapy at Clarkson. Trained in dialectical behavior therapy, Graveline researches the use of comfort rooms in mental health settings and is an experienced occupational therapist.

A Teaching Promotion

Another professor making the jump from assistant to associate is Jane Oppenlander, who was promoted to associate professor on a teaching track in the Lewis School. Oppenlander also chairs the bioethics program and brings more than 35 years of experience as an applied statistician in the energy industry to her position.
