Winter weather creates the perfect conditions for slips, trips and falls! To prevent an incident, it is important to be alert to potentially dangerous situations that could result in a slip, trip or fall.
When exiting and entering your vehicle:
· Maintain three points of contact
· Use your vehicle for support
· Use caution when shifting your weight
· Keep your hands free for holding on to secure objects (not your coffee cup!)
When walking on sidewalks and parking lots:
· Use handrails
· Step slowly
· Maintain your center of balance
· Avoid talking on your cell phone
· Pay attention to areas where water could have melted and has refrozen
· Wear proper footwear
When entering and exiting buildings:
· Pay attention to areas where water could have melted from roofs and has refrozen
· Wipe your shoes well when entering to reduce slips and falls inside buildings
SAFETY IS A GROUP EFFORT:
· Notify Facilities & Services at 315.268.4000 if you find an icy spot that needs attention.
· “Pails of Prevention” are located inside all University buildings, while “Hoppers of Hope” are located outside near campus bridges as ice tends to accumulate in those areas. Please take a moment to spread ice melt to any nearby area.
· If you slip or fall, please complete an incident report at https://cm.maxient.com/reportingform.php?ClarksonUniv&layout_id=2 and include a detailed description and picture of what, why, and where the incident occurred so that we can best follow up on it and prevent future occurrences.
Email safetyandsecurity@clarkson.edu if you have any questions.
