Hazardous Materials to be Stabilized and Removed from Campus

On Wednesday morning, April 12, 2023, the Clean Harbors Reactives Team will be on site at the Science Center to relocate, stabilize, and prepare for the disposal of chemicals located in Science Center 240 (chemical stockroom).  The 1st and 2nd floors will have orange cones marking their route from the stockroom to the road outside the loading dock where the actual stabilization will occur.  Upon arrival, the team will determine if they want to go down the elevator and out the loading dock or down the stairs and out the loading dock. The route in the building will need to be clear while they are moving the chemicals.  Likewise, a portion of Adirondack Trail will be closed to traffic during this time as indicated on the map.  Mobilization will start at approximately 7:00 a.m. or earlier. The team will use a “Day Box” for the transfer of the chemicals.  Once they are out of the building, normal inside building traffic can resume. Once stabilized at their vehicle, the roadway will reopen.  Your cooperation in keeping these areas clear is appreciated.

The Reactives Team wears protective coveralls, Kevlar gloves, a “riot” helmet and face shield as a precaution. Overall, transport and stabilization are expected to take less than 2 hours.
