Tree Campus USA – Celebration and Tree planting Event

Please join us to celebrate Arbor Day, Tree Campus USA  certification and tree planting efforts

Tuesday May 2, 11 am starting at the Greenhouse (behind Cheel)Arbor Day marks Clarkson’s 6th year as a certified Tree Campus USA, a designation from the  Arbor Day Foundation Program. Clarkson is one of around 400 colleges/universities with this recognition.

We will start with our thanks to OIT for buying 100 seedlings and the Campus Tree Committee, led by Eric Parkman, for their commitment to the health and habitat diversity of the trees that beautify our campus.

Then it is work time! We will…

  • plant seedling tree plugs to help with reforestation along the HP-Moore House path
  • plant replacement trees around Cheel lawn

This event follows a lot of work accomplished during Earth Week. Student groups helped by planting seedlings in containers, digging out a tree stump, planting 2 replacement Oak trees, and scraping a massive amount of spongy moth caterpillar eggs from trees around Camp and Cheel.

We will continue this collaborative effort on Tuesday to recognize that trees are an integral part of the college campus and experience. They make our campus more livable, healthy, and beautiful, benefiting students and the environment as a whole.
