The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Office is proud to present an opportunity for Clarkson University Students to travel to the Akwesasne International Powwow on the Akwesasne Mohawk Territory on Saturday, September 9th. Eligible students must have international travel documents (Passport/NEXUS Card/Enhanced ID Card) and fulfill all border entry requirements into Canada (ie: Visa, etc). Students are also expected to dress appropriately for a day outside. The first 25 student to reigter will recieve free tickets. Free bus transportation is available for up to 25 students, please indicate your need in the registration form. We encourage students to share rides as they are able. The Akwesasne International Powwow is back this year and will offer visitors a chance to see dance and drum competitions, including the popular smoke dance competitions. Dancers and spectators from all over Indigenous North America compete and showcase their talents. A wide selection of craft and food vendors will allow anyone to purchase goods and experience powwow cuisine. Please note each student will be expected to bring their monies for food.
If you will be traveling with us by bus, we are leaving Cheel Arena at 9:30 am on Saturday, September 9th, with an expected return to campus around 4-5 pm (leaving the event at 3:30 pm). The event will be held at the A’nowara’ko:wa Arena (Turtle Dome) on Cornwall Island (located between Massena, NY, and Cornwall, Canada).
